Worth read! This book is not about description of heroic stories or the description of tragedies carried by bengali Bangladeshi peoples during liberation. Rather it is all about diplomacy, geo-political hegemony, and many intriguing factors of power politics (specially in context of USA involvement!).
As you already have basic knowledge about what happened in this war. This book will go to further probe Whether india went to the war solely for humanitarian causes or there was many other factors that prompted it to involve in, whether the ultimate win of Bangladesh and in turn India was inevitable and pre-predicted after the involvement of india or it was a consequences of synchronisation of several international political factors that paved the way for India to go for military adventure into the then East Pakistan, kinda safely. The writer observed that despite indian army heavy involvement and sacrifice of mukti fauz and muzib bahini, it might not have been possible for india to go such extent if they were not lucky enough for that political situation and an independent Bangladesh wouldn't have come out!
Next question the writer pointed out here through the war: risings confliction of two principles, Global humanitarianism vs Sovereignty. It is much more important in current context, where the earlier advocates that in case of human causes there should not be anything call "internal matter" where as the latter advocates that the causes of a country's populace (no matter how much worst it is) is always internal matter and it is state who will take care of and no other foreign entity can have scope to intervene or to say anything about . It became important during the liberation because of the butchery of pak army. Where pak repeated it was their internal matter, india repeated that it couldn’t be internal matter.
